How to write the best Build to Rent property award entry

Excitement is growing for the first Build to Rent Awards 2023, hosted by Love to Rent, the first and leading digital marketing platform exclusively for the Build to Rent sector. The full criteria and guidelines for the eleven categories are on the website and the lineup of experienced judges has been finalised. So, all that’s left to do is select the category that best suits you and look at these top tips from our judges to shine a light on the Build to Rent sector.

Tell a story

Build to Rent is so much more than just giving people somewhere to live. Creating positive social value and community are at the core of the sector. Focus on writing a compelling narrative to fully tell the whole story of living in a Build to Rent development and connect with the judges on a human level while showcasing the development’s features and benefits.

Prove it

When it comes to award entries, show, don’t just tell. Judges will be looking for clear evidence to support examples and be sure to be as precise as possible. Use data, testimonials and reviews to evidence your claims.

Take your time

Well thought out entries take time to create and those that score highest, show attention to detail throughout. Consider doing the entry in stages, answer the questions then review them the next day. Edit and rework your application each time to improve and enhance the submission and avoid jargon or overly complex language.

Focus on what matters

There are eleven different categories in the Build to Rent Awards 2023 with a different focus for each one. Judges will be looking to ensure that each entry is dedicated to meet that requirement. When writing the award, focus on what matters for that entry and give the majority of the word count over to ensuring that you have fully covered the topics that will be discussed by the judges.

Tone and personality

Build to Rent is like no other property sector. It is one that thrives on making a positive impact on the community, the environment and the people that live within it. Each development has its own distinct personality and character, and your award entry should reflect this. Make sure to inject some authentic personality into the entry to set it apart from the others.

The final checks

Before submitting, review and edit your entry and check you’ve not exceeded the word count. Have you fully answered the criteria and left the judges without further questions? Have you attached all supporting material, is it relevant and does it enhance your entry. It is also a worthwhile exercise to have someone else review it to check for clarity and to see if they can spot any errors.

Don’t forget to celebrate

After all your hard work, make sure to attend the first ever Build to Rent Awards 2023, hosted by Love to Rent. For both sponsors and those entering either as a supplier, developer, operator or investor, the awards ceremony will be a chance to celebrate and reward the incredible efforts that everyone puts into the Build to Rent sector. The event, held at The Londoner, the world’s first super boutique hotel overlooking bustling Leicester Square, is a fantastic networking opportunity. The awards ceremony is a wonderful chance to celebrate with your team and boost morale. As well as the significant media attention that will be garnered, it’s a great chance to celebrate success internally for everyone involved.
